Status, November 2026: current. SanDisk still lists the Extreme Portable SSD (model SDSSDE61) alongside its newer V3.
What it is
The Extreme Portable SSD is SanDisk's rugged USB-C drive, sold in 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB sizes. It uses USB 3.2 Gen 2, is rated for up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write, and measures 100.54 × 52.42 × 8.95 mm (SanDisk data sheet). SanDisk rates it IP65 for water and dust and for drops of up to 3 m, adds 256-bit AES hardware encryption with password protection, and gives it a five-year limited warranty. The box holds a USB-C to USB-C cable and a small USB-C to USB-A adapter; most club players have USB-A ports, so keep the adapter with the drive. Tech Advisor measured the cable at about 20 cm. TechGearLab found it formatted exFAT, which the CDJ-3000X and Denon DJ players read; a CDJ-2000NXS2 needs FAT32, as the external drives guide explains.
In 2023 users reported drives that disconnected or lost data, PCMag notes, and it stopped recommending the drive. SanDisk's support page blames a firmware issue, lists the 4 TB among affected drives and says drives made from 2023 have the fix; the 4 TB and 8 TB update through the SANDISK App. Keep a second copy of your export. The V3, launched in February 2026, is rated for up to 2,000 MB/s.
