Status, November 2026: current. Apple lists the MacBook Air with M5 in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes.
What it is
The MacBook Air with M5 is Apple's thin, fanless laptop, announced in March 2026 in 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch sizes. The M5 chip has a 10-core CPU, with an 8-core GPU on the entry 13-inch and a 10-core GPU on every other model. Memory is 16 GB or 24 GB as standard and up to 32 GB to order; storage starts at 512 GB and goes up to 4 TB. Both are chosen when you order: Tom's Hardware and Notebookcheck note that they are soldered. The ports are two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), a MagSafe 3 charging port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones. There is no USB-A port, so a controller or audio interface with a USB-A cable needs an adapter, and a third device needs a hub. Apple quotes up to 18 hours of video streaming; the 13-inch weighs 1.23 kg and the 15-inch 1.51 kg (Apple specifications).
Reviews repeat that it is silent because it has no fan, and that it slows down under long, heavy loads such as video exports: Tom's Hardware found it throttles in a sustained stress test without getting uncomfortably hot. Eight reviews praise the speakers for a laptop this thin, and nine mention that the screen is still 60 Hz. rekordbox 7.2.19 lists macOS up to Tahoe 26 while Apple's current release is macOS 27, so check your software before updating.
