The Internet’s Opinion

From 7 professional reviews and 13 owner reviews: a fair amount of evidence.

All seven professional reviews recommend it as the modular Traktor controller refreshed with five OLED displays, lighting cues, a mixer mode and a powered USB hub, and Thomann owners repeat the build quality and how easily it travels. The repeated reservations are no audio interface, USB-B rather than USB-C, and the loss of the MK2's touch strips.

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

All seven professional reviews recommend it: the five OLED displays, lighting cues and mixer mode let you watch the controller rather than the laptop, and Thomann owners repeat the build quality and how easily it travels. The reservations are the same everywhere: no audio interface, USB-B rather than USB-C, and the MK2's touch strips are gone. Buy it to add hands-on Traktor control to a mixer or CDJs, and pair it with a Z1 MK2 if you need headphone cueing.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Native Instruments still lists the Traktor X1 MK3.

What it is

The Traktor X1 MK3 is a compact USB controller for effects, loops and mixing in Traktor, the third generation of a modular design that Native Instruments first released in 2009 (Native Instruments product page). NI announced it on 29 August 2023 at $299, with shipping from 20 September 2023 (Sound On Sound). It is built to sit beside a mixer, CDJs or NI's own Traktor Z1 MK2 rather than to replace an all-in-one such as the Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3, the Kontrol S4 or the newer Traktor MX2.

Each of its two deck sections has 10 transport buttons for play, sync, beat jump and hot cues, two push encoders for browsing and loop size, and four knobs with buttons for effects. Five OLED displays show track progress, track name, loop size, the selected effects and their parameters, and a Mixer Mode switches the effects controls to EQs and channel levels at one button press. A light system in the base signals a track about to end or a running loop, in colours the user can set. The MK2's touch strips are gone (Digital DJ Tips).

There is no audio interface. NI's setup examples route sound through a club mixer with a built-in interface, or pair the X1 with the Z1 for a pre-listening channel. A three-port powered USB hub on the back connects CDJs in HID mode or more X1s, and needs the included power supply; on its own, the X1 runs on USB bus power. It measures 129 x 323 x 56 mm and weighs 754 g. The licence for Traktor Pro 4 is included, with two months of Beatport or Beatsource streaming for new users; the controller needs Traktor Pro 3.10 or later and works with other software through MIDI mappings you create. Bonedo lists the box contents as the controller, a soft bag, the power supply with plug adapters, a USB cable and stickers (Bonedo).
