The Internet’s Opinion

From 3 professional reviews and 23 owner reviews: a fair amount of evidence.

All three professional reviews recommend it as the Rane Four with motorised platters, and the 23 owners read at Thomann and Guitar Center repeat the stems controls, the vinyl feel of the platters and the build. The reservations are its 12.8 kg, the price, an effects section one owner finds fiddly, a workflow that takes adjusting from other controllers, and the laptop it still needs.

What people praise

  • Stems controls on the hardware: STEM-SPLIT and the acapella and instrumental buttons
  • The motorised 7-inch platters feel close to real vinyl for scratching
  • Solid, professional build
Show 5 more
  • 3.5-inch platter screens with waveforms, library and a Day Mode
  • The Rane Four's layout and workflow with motorised platters added
  • Clean sound from the built-in sound card
  • Familiar layout that is quick to learn
  • Precision Feel channel faders and a tension-adjustable MAG FOUR crossfader

What to know first

  • At 12.8 kg it is heavy and awkward to carry in a bag
  • Expensive, and more than the Rane Four, which keeps everything but the motors
  • The workflow takes adjusting from another controller: platter torque, copied rather than mirrored platters, sensitive knobs

  • The internal effects divide opinion: fiddly in use and a weak reverb for one owner, a fun extra rather than essential for a reviewer
  • Not standalone: it still needs a laptop running Serato DJ Pro or VirtualDJ

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

All three professional reviews recommend the Performer as the Rane Four with motorised platters, and the 23 owners read at Thomann and Guitar Center repeat the stems buttons, the vinyl feel of the 7-inch platters and the build. The reservations are the same everywhere: 12.8 kg is a lot to carry, it costs more than the Four, and it still needs a laptop running Serato DJ Pro or VirtualDJ. Buy it if motorised platters matter to you; the Four does the rest for less.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Rane still lists the Performer.

What it is

The Performer is a four-channel motorised DJ controller for Serato DJ Pro from Rane, the inMusic brand, announced on 25 June 2024 at $1,999 (Rane product page). It takes the layout and stems workflow of the Rane Four and adds the motorised platters of the two-channel Rane One MkII; Rane calls it "the only 4 channel motorized DJ controller built to RANE standards."

Each deck has a 7-inch high-torque die-cast aluminium platter with an acrylic disc, with high and low torque settings, and a 3.5-inch colour display in the centre showing waveforms, deck status, artwork and the library, with a Day Mode for bright rooms. Below each platter sit eight performance pads with OLED Pad Mode displays, ten pad modes and a Split Pad Mode that runs two modes at once. The mixer has four PRECISION FEEL channel faders with contour and reverse controls and a MAG FOUR crossfader with an external tension knob. Stems are handled on the hardware with STEM-SPLIT, STEM LEVEL, a STEM Pad Mode and acapella and instrumental buttons, and the internal FX engine offers 29 MAIN FX and four knob-controlled CHANNEL FX alongside Serato's software effects.

The rear panel has XLR and RCA main outputs, a 1/4" TRS booth/zone output, two RCA inputs for decks 3 and 4 that switch between phono and line, and two XLR/TRS combo mic inputs, each with its own gain and two-band EQ; MIC 1 adds echo and talkover. Two USB-B ports let two computers connect. Plugging it in unlocks Serato DJ Pro; Serato DVS is a paid expansion and VirtualDJ needs a Pro licence.

It measures 783.3 x 402.3 x 109.7 mm and weighs 12.8 kg. The box holds the controller, an IEC power cable, a USB cable, an assortment of slip rings, fader lube, a Serato Pitch 'n Time download card, stickers and platter markers, a cleaning cloth, a poster, a Quickstart Guide and the Safety and Warranty Manual.
