UDG Urbanite MIDI Controller Backpack Large

A padded backpack for a large controller and a 19-inch laptop; not cheap, and little evidence so far.

The Internet’s Opinion

From 2 professional reviews and 18 owner reviews: not much evidence yet.

Bonedo, a YouTube reviewer and Thomann owners agree it is a well-made, well-padded bag that carries a large controller, a laptop and the cables together, worn on the back or carried by hand. The reservations are the price and, for two owners, that a wheeled or hard case suits frequent moves better.

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

The evidence is thin: one written review, one YouTube review and 18 Thomann owners. Both reviews recommend it, and owners praise a sturdy, well-padded bag that carries a large controller, a laptop and cables together, on the back or by hand. The reservation is the price, and two owners would rather have wheels or a hard case for frequent moves. Buy it to carry a DDJ-800-size controller on your back; measure wider controllers first.

What it is

Status, November 2026: current. UDG Gear sells the Urbanite MIDI Controller Backpack Large in black, model U7202BL.

What it is

The Urbanite MIDI Controller Backpack Large is UDG Gear's soft bag for a full-size DJ controller and a laptop. The main compartment measures 70.0 x 40.0 x 10.0 cm inside and the bag 73.0 x 43.0 x 22.5 cm outside; it weighs 3.95 kg and is made from water-repellent laminated 600D polyester (UDG specifications). Movable foam inserts size the main compartment to the controller. UDG's fit list includes the Pioneer DJ DDJ-800 and XDJ-RR, the Denon DJ SC Live 2 and Prime 2, the Rane One MKII and the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro. Bonedo found that a Pioneer DJ DDJ-1000 fills the width and a DDJ-RZX would not fit, so measure a wide controller first.

A side compartment takes a laptop up to 19 inches, and two front pockets hold headphones, drives and cables. The bag carries by the handle, on a padded shoulder strap or as a backpack. Bonedo notes that the backpack straps stow in a zipped pocket on the back, and that the bag tips over easily when stood upright. Owners at Thomann most often praise how much fits in one bag and how well the padding holds the controller.
