The Internet’s Opinion

From 2 professional reviews and 3 owner reviews: not much evidence yet.

Evidence is thin: two professional reviews and three owner reviews. Both reviews recommend it as a worthy successor to the Vestax Handy Trax whose looper and effects set it apart, with reservations about missing extras such as Bluetooth; one of the three owners reports the needle skipping and marking records.

What people praise

  • The looper, filters and delay make it a small beat and scratch instrument
  • Truly portable, on batteries with a built-in speaker
  • A faithful revival of the Vestax Handy Trax

What to know first

  • Missing extras: no Bluetooth or second fader slot, and no effects on the AUX input

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

Only two professional reviews and three owner reviews exist, so this is an early read. Bonedo and Amazona both recommend it as a worthy successor to the Vestax Handy Trax, and its looper, filters and delay are what set it apart. The reservations are missing extras such as Bluetooth and effects on the AUX input, and one owner reports the needle skipping and marking records. Buy it for portable scratching and looping; for club sets, a full-size turntable suits better.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Korg still lists the handytraxx play.

What it is

The Handytraxx Play is a portable, battery-powered record player for scratching from Korg, launched at NAMM in January 2025 (Bonedo launch news). Korg developed it with Toshihide Nakama, former president of Vestax and co-creator of the Vestax Handy Trax, who died during development in June 2023, and it revives that portablism turntable (Korg product page).

It is belt-driven, with a DC servo motor and digital rotation correction to keep the platter steady, plays at 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm with a variable speed control, and has a custom tonearm designed to reduce skipping. A stereo ceramic cartridge is fitted, and the redesigned headshell also takes MM cartridges with some basic soldering. The scratch fader is replaceable and can be reversed, and the control panel turns round for left- or right-handed use.

Korg has added digital effects: three filter types (a DJ filter, an EQ filter with a low isolator and a peaking wah) and a delay set by a vertical fader. A looper records about 20 seconds from the record, which can then be scratched over or kept playing while you change records.

It has a line out and a phono out, an AUX input and a built-in 2.5 W speaker, and runs from the included AC adapter or six AA batteries, for about 11 hours on alkalines. It measures 370 x 280 x 84 mm and weighs 2.3 kg. The box holds the AC adapter with five plug types, a dust cover, a slipmat and slip sheet, an EP adapter and a Quick Start Guide (Korg specifications).
