The Internet’s Opinion

From 1 professional review and 4 owner reviews: not much evidence yet.

Evidence is thin: one professional review and four owner reviews. They describe hard-hitting bass for mobile gigs; single owners report outputs failing within a year and bass too shallow for EDM, which no second source confirms.

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

Evidence is thin: one professional review, from Pro Mobile, which recommends it, and four owner reviews at Guitar Center. Three sources describe hard-hitting bass that suits mobile DJ gigs and parties. Single owners report outputs failing within a year and bass that does not go deep enough for EDM, and Mackie now also lists the newer Thump18Sv4. Buy it as a matching sub for Thump tops; with so little evidence, compare it with rivals first.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Mackie still lists the Thump118S in its Thump Series, alongside the newer Thumpv4 Series and its Thump18Sv4.

What it is

The Thump118S is an 18-inch powered subwoofer from Mackie and the flagship sub of its Thump Series (Mackie product page). It arrived with the 15-inch Thump115S in Mackie's 2022 refresh of the Thump range, which began shipping in August 2022 (Pro Mobile). Mackie calls the pair the perfect match for a Thump loudspeaker system, whose 2022 tops run from the 10-inch Thump210 to the 15-inch Thump215.

A 1,400 W peak Class-D amplifier drives the 18-inch woofer. Mackie quotes a maximum SPL of 132 dB and a frequency response of 40 Hz to 120 Hz at -3 dB, reaching 30 Hz at -10 dB (spec sheet).

Two balanced XLR inputs take a stereo feed; there are no 1/4" or RCA inputs. Two XLR high-pass outputs feed the tops, and a High Pass Mode button picks one of four voicings: Flat, Deep for more low-end extension, Punch for more output, or Variable, which sets the tops' high-pass between 80 Hz and 160 Hz. Two XLR full-range outputs pass the input on unchanged, in stereo or summed to mono, to chain a second sub. The back panel also has a gain knob, a polarity switch and a switch for the front LED (owner's manual).

An M20-threaded socket on top takes a speaker pole, sold separately, and two top corner handles carry it. It measures 540 x 530 x 605 mm (H x W x D) and weighs 29.7 kg. A detachable power cord is in the box.
