The Internet’s Opinion

From 5 professional reviews and 5 owner reviews: a fair amount of evidence.

Four of five professional reviews, all from 2016, recommend it, for the touchscreen browsing, eight hot cues and hi-res audio; Amazona is mixed on value. Price is the reservation every source repeats. Pioneer DJ has archived it, and the CDJ-3000 took its place in 2020.

Our take

Dex JonesWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

Four of five professional reviews recommend it: the 7-inch touchscreen with search and Track Filter speeds up browsing, there are eight colour hot cues, and the sound card handles FLAC and ALAC at 96 kHz/24-bit. Every source repeats the price, and Amazona calls the changes over the NXS small. Pioneer DJ has archived it for the CDJ-3000, so buy it used, checked, as a cheaper route to club-standard practice.

What it is

Status, October 2026: discontinued. Pioneer DJ launched the CDJ-3000 as its successor in September 2020.

What it is

The CDJ-2000NXS2 is a professional DJ multi player with a disc drive from Pioneer DJ, announced with the DJM-900NXS2 mixer on 12 January 2016 and on sale from February that year (Pioneer DJ product page). It replaced the CDJ-2000NXS. A limited-edition white CDJ-2000NXS2-W followed in September 2017.

It plays CDs, USB drives, SD and SDHC cards up to 32 GB, and a computer, in MP3, AAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and ALAC. Tracks are prepared in rekordbox, and Link Export plays straight from rekordbox on a laptop over USB. The 7-inch colour touch screen has keyword search and Track Filter, and two banks of four colour hot cues give eight in all. Over the NXS, Pioneer DJ added a 96 kHz/24-bit sound card with a 32-bit D/A converter.

Up to four players link over LAN with Pro DJ Link to share music and sync; a mixer with a single LAN port needs a switching hub. Over USB-HID the player controls Serato DJ Pro, Traktor Pro 4 and djay Pro without a control disc, and it works with rekordbox DVS on the Core plan or above. The DDJ-SP1 plugs in over USB to control loops and cues on up to four players.

Outputs are analogue RCA and coaxial digital. The player measures 320 x 113.2 x 414.4 mm and weighs 5.7 kg. The box holds a power cord, an audio cable, a LAN cable, a disc force eject pin, the quick start guide and a warranty card; rekordbox and the driver are downloads.
