The Internet’s Opinion

From 5 professional reviews and 11 owner reviews: a fair amount of evidence.

Three of five reviews of version 4 recommend it, and the two written tests and the owners read at Thomann and Guitar Center praise its stability and an intuitive workflow, with the rebuilt 4.0 library the main gain. The repeated reservations are stems that need a strong computer and can sound rough on vocals, a higher price with Pitch 'n Time, DVS and Video sold as expansions, and two YouTube DJs who found 4.0 a letdown.

What people praise

  • Intuitive and quick to learn, for beginners and experienced DJs alike
  • Stable and reliable in live use
  • The rebuilt 4.0 library: crate search, colours, track ratings, and local and streamed tracks in one crate
Show 5 more
  • Stems for live acapellas and mashups, with clean instrumentals and drums
  • Free updates keep adding features
  • Much faster start-up and automatic track analysis on import
  • Very low-latency DVS, with Anti-Drift for turntables
  • Worth the step up from the free Serato DJ Lite

What to know first

  • Stems need a powerful computer, and analysis is slow on older laptops
  • The price has gone up, and Pitch 'n Time, DVS and Video are paid expansions
  • Slow to change: the library overhaul came late and some requests are still open
Show 3 more
  • Acapella stems can sound boxy and lose syllables or notes
  • Basic built-in effects without the paid Serato FX expansion
  • Some DJs found the 4.0 update a letdown, and one regretted updating

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

Three of five reviews of version 4 recommend it. Bonedo, Audiofanzine and the 11 owners read at Thomann and Guitar Center praise its stability and an intuitive workflow, and the rebuilt 4.0 library stands out. The reservations: stems need a strong computer and vocals can sound boxy, Pitch 'n Time, DVS and Video cost extra, and two YouTube DJs found 4.0 a letdown. Free with hardware that unlocks it; otherwise try the 14-day Suite trial before buying.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Serato still lists Serato DJ Pro; version 4.0.10 is the current release, and the Serato DJ 5.0 public beta opened in September 2026 (Serato).

What it is

Serato DJ Pro is the professional DJ software from Serato, the New Zealand software company that also makes Serato Studio. It runs on a Mac or Windows PC, replaced Serato Scratch Live (Audiofanzine) and sits above Serato DJ Lite, the free version for entry-level controllers (Serato). Version 4.0 arrived in November 2025 with a rebuilt library: track ratings, crate search, sorting and colours, crates that hold local and streamed tracks together, and analysis on import (release notes).

It plays up to four decks with hardware that supports them and splits a playing track into vocals, melody, bass and drums in real time with Serato Stems. It streams from Apple Music, Beatport, SoundCloud, Spotify Premium and TIDAL with its DJ add-on, though sets cannot be recorded while streaming (music streaming).

Serato lists over 100 officially supported controllers, mixers and media players. Hardware that unlocks Serato DJ Pro needs no licence; a Serato DJ Lite controller or a mixer sold as a paid upgrade needs a one-off licence or a subscription, and Practice Mode runs it free with basic features on a laptop alone (pricing). Serato DJ Suite adds Pitch 'n Time DJ, DVS for Control Vinyl and Control CDs, Video, Flip, Play, Serato FX and Serato Studio.

Version 4.0.10 runs on macOS 14 Sonoma to 26 Tahoe and on Windows 11, and Serato recommends a 2017 or later computer with 8 GB of RAM and 15 GB of free SSD space (downloads).
