The Internet’s Opinion

From 13 professional reviews and 1 owner review: a fair amount of evidence.

All 13 professional reviews recommend it, chiefly for SonicLink, which lets a DJ mix wirelessly without lag they can hear, and for strong bass for an 8-inch speaker, an eight-hour battery and easy transport. The repeated reservations are wheels that wobble on rough ground, a high price if you do not need SonicLink, the limits of one 8-inch woofer, 12.7 kg of weight and a lightly protected tweeter; only one owner review was long enough to read.

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

All 13 professional reviews recommend the WAVE-EIGHT, seven on YouTube, mostly for SonicLink: reviewers mixed wirelessly without hearing lag, and the transmitter is in the box. They also praise the bass for an 8-inch speaker and the eight-hour battery. The reservations are an exposed tweeter, a price above wired speakers, wheels that wobble on rough ground and 12.7 kg. Buy it if cables or mains power are the problem at your gigs; otherwise a wired speaker costs less.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. AlphaTheta still lists the WAVE-EIGHT.

What it is

The WAVE-EIGHT is a battery-powered 8-inch DJ speaker from AlphaTheta, announced on 25 January 2024 (AlphaTheta launch news), and AlphaTheta pairs it with the OMNIS-DUO portable all-in-one for cable-free sets.

Its main feature is SonicLink, a 2.4 GHz wireless link that AlphaTheta says is much faster than Bluetooth. A transmitter in the box plugs into the RCA output of a DJ mixer or controller and sends audio about 15 m; it stores and charges in a covered compartment on the side of the speaker. Up to four speakers daisy-chain over SonicLink, each set to left, right or both channels, and one can run as a subwoofer. Bluetooth 5.1 is there for phones, and two speakers pair over Bluetooth as a stereo pair.

It is a two-way bass-reflex design with an 8-inch aramid-fibre woofer, a 1-inch soft dome tweeter and a 110 W amplifier. A switch picks one of six sound modes: Music, Flat, a low-cut version of each for use with a subwoofer, Speech and Subwoofer. Under a rear cover sit two XLR/1/4-inch combo line inputs, a 1/4-inch mic input with level, two-band EQ and echo, a 3.5 mm aux input, an XLR line out and a USB-C port that charges a phone.

The battery runs for about eight hours and recharges in four to six. The speaker is rated IPX4 when upright with its covers closed, and it has casters, a telescopic handle, top and side handles and a 35 mm pole socket. It measures 300 x 554 x 337 mm and weighs 12.7 kg. The box holds the speaker, the transmitter, a power cable, a transmitter cable, an RCA cable and paperwork (instruction manual).
