The Internet’s Opinion

From 8 professional reviews and 53 owner reviews: a fair amount of evidence.

Reviewers and owners recommend them for clear sound at a lower level, comfort over long sessions and filters that set the level before a gig. Recurring complaints are some dulled highs or boomier bass, a fit that takes practice and a thin cord; Alpine's own manual says the white filter isn't hearing protection under EU rules.

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

Seven of eight professional reviews recommend them, and 53 owners mostly agree: swappable filters set the level, music stays clear and they stay comfortable for hours. The catches are some dulled highs, a fit that takes practice and a thin cord. Alpine's manual rates the gold and silver filters at 22 and 20 dB SNR; the white one isn't hearing protection under EU rules. Buy them to set a level before each gig.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Alpine still sells the MusicSafe Pro on its own shop, in transparent and black.

What it is

The MusicSafe Pro is a reusable musicians' earplug set from Alpine Hearing Protection, a Dutch maker based in Utrecht (Alpine product page). It is passive, with no electronics: a soft, silicone-free earplug that takes a swappable acoustic filter, and Alpine pitches it at musicians, DJs and sound engineers. It sits above the plain MusicSafe, which has two filter pairs instead of three.

Alpine's product page labels the filters 16 dB (white), 19 dB (silver) and 22 dB (gold). The user manual, tested to EN 352-2:2020, gives SNRs of 22 dB for gold, 20 dB for silver and 16 dB for white, and says the white filter falls short of the minimum attenuation, so it isn't hearing protection under the EU PPE Regulation 2016/425. Alpine declares the set compliant with that regulation, CE certified and monitored by PZT GmbH, and lists it as ANSI tested.

The box holds three earplugs (one spare), two each of the gold, silver and white filters, a wearing cord, a storage case and a cleaning spray. The earplugs come in one universal size for ear canals of 9 to 12 mm.

The manual says to pull the ear up slightly and insert the earplug until it fits snugly, without pushing it too deep, and not to pull it out by the cord. Clean them regularly with mild soap and lukewarm water. Alpine gives a service life of five years from the manufacturing date and says they can be used about 100 times.
