Methodology

Using sources such as DJ Top 100 Clubs, Hostelworld, Musicgateway and  NME, we created a seed list of the best music venues around the world. From this list we then collected data based on each venue’s TikTok hashtag views, Instagram hashtagged posts, and annual Google searches. From this data, we then ranked the venues to reveal the biggest music venues today.

To get an overall ranking for each venue we took into account the total number of TikTok hashtags, Instagram followers, Instagram hashtags, average Google review score, the number of Google searches from March 2022 to February 2023 and the percentage increase in searches from March 2019 to February 2023. Each venue was then given a normalised score out of ten for each of these factors before an average of these scores was taken.

For the ‘most popular music venues by country’ section, we used a list of over 50 countries from Wikipedia. From this, we collected searched data based on the average monthly searches of each music venue for each country from March 2022 to February 2023 in order to find out the top favourite. This data was then ranked based on the venues that appeared the most when looking at all the countries.

For the top-rated section, we took the average review score given by users on Google.

By also looking at Google search data from March 2019 we showed how the annual search data for each music venue has changed to reveal which are becoming more or less popular over the years. This data was ranked based on the YoY percentage difference between March 2019 to February 2023.

Moreover, we also used Google search data to discover each country’s most popular music venue by looking at the most recent average monthly search data for each venue in each country. This data was then ranked in order of the locations with the most searches.

Please note, all data collection was completed on 20/03/2023.
