DJs play recorded music for an audience: on the radio, in clubs, at festivals, or as turntablists cutting records up by hand. A club DJ usually runs two or more sources at once and blends them, so one track flows into the next. That takes the right kit, usually a DJ controller or a mixer with decks, plus headphones, and plenty of practice (our guide to how to DJ covers the basics).
At the top of the industry, DJs tour the world and headline the biggest festivals and clubs. So which DJs have the widest reach?
The ranking below is the author's own. It scores 100 well-known DJs on Spotify listeners, Google searches, Google News results, and Instagram and TikTok followers, collected for the original study in 2022 (the method is at the end). It measures reach online, not skill behind the decks. Figures are as they stood when the data was collected unless a later date is given.
The Best DJs in the World
1. David Guetta - total DJ score of 9.41/10
The most influential DJ in the study is the French DJ and producer David Guetta. Guetta's 2009 single 'When Love Takes Over' with Kelly Rowland won a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording in 2010 for its electro extended remix, and Guetta's remix of Madonna's 'Revolver', made with Afrojack, won the same award in 2011. When the study was compiled, Guetta had topped DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll three times (2011, 2020 and 2021). Wins in 2023, 2025 and 2026 have since made Guetta the first artist to take the title six times (DJ Mag, 7 October 2026). At the time of the study Guetta had over 71 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 5 million TikTok followers.
2. Alan Walker - total DJ score of 9.38/10
Born in Northampton, England, in 1997, Alan Walker is a British-Norwegian producer who started making music on a laptop in 2012, inspired by producers K-391 and Ahrix, whom Walker had found on YouTube. YouTube is also where Walker's audience grew: the channel had 43 million subscribers at the time of the study. 'Faded', a reworked version of the earlier track 'Fade', had almost 1.7 billion Spotify plays then and about 2.5 billion by October 2026.
3. Marshmello - total DJ score of 9.33/10
Marshmello has charted with collaborations including 'Silence' with Khalid, 'Wolves' with Selena Gomez and 'Happier' with Bastille, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. 'Happier' had more than 1.8 billion Spotify plays at the time of the study and about 2.7 billion by October 2026. Social reach is what puts Marshmello third: nearly 30 million Instagram followers and 27.4 million on TikTok, the most of any DJ in the study.
4. Calvin Harris - total DJ score of 9.12/10
Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris released a debut album, 'I Created Disco', in June 2007. Harris went on to top Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid DJs six years in a row, the sixth in 2018 with estimated earnings of $48 million. 5. DJ Snake - total DJ score of 8.91/10
DJ Snake is the second French DJ in the top five. DJ Snake released 'Turn Down for What' with Lil Jon in 2013, but 'Let Me Love You' is the biggest on Spotify: over 1.7 billion plays at the time of the study and about 3.3 billion by October 2026.

Two names in the table had stopped performing before the data was collected, and their search and listening numbers stayed high: Avicii died in April 2018, and Daft Punk split in February 2021.
Spotify Stats
1. David Guetta - 71.3m average monthly listeners
David Guetta had the most average monthly listeners on Spotify in the study, 71.3 million, nearly 10 million more than Calvin Harris in second. Guetta's most-played track then was 'Titanium' with Sia, alongside 'When Love Takes Over' and 'Turn Me On'. The order at the top has held: on 13 October 2026 Guetta had about 83 million monthly listeners and Harris about 75 million, according to kworb.net, which tracks Spotify's figures daily.
2. Calvin Harris - 61.5m average monthly listeners
Calvin Harris was the only other DJ above 60 million. Harris had four songs past a billion Spotify plays at the time: 'One Kiss' with Dua Lipa, 'Summer', 'This Is What You Came For' and 'We Found Love' with Rihanna. By October 2026 all four had passed 2.2 billion and 'Feel So Close' had passed 1.7 billion (kworb.net). Harris has also worked with Ne-Yo, on 'Let's Go'.
3. Tiësto - 45.6m average monthly listeners
The Dutch DJ Tiësto averaged 45.6 million monthly listeners in the study, with 'The Business' the most-played track, ahead of '10:35', 'The Motto' and 'Lay Low'. In a Mixmag readers' poll published in the magazine's February 2011 issue, Tiësto was named the Greatest DJ of All Time (MTV News, January 2011). By October 2026 Tiësto's monthly listeners had fallen to about 34 million (kworb.net).

Google News Stats
1. Jonas Blue - 13.4m Google News articles
The London-based DJ and producer Jonas Blue returned more Google News results than any other DJ in the study, over 13 million. Jonas Blue first became known in 2015 with a cover of Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car'.
2. Above & Beyond - 12.9m Google News articles
The trio Above & Beyond had 12.9 million Google News results. Their Group Therapy radio show reached episode 700 in 2026, and they announced a Group Therapy 700 weekend at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington for 11 to 13 September 2026, their first show at the venue since ABGT250 in 2017 (Beatportal, December 2025).
3. Vintage Culture - 7.42m Google News articles
The Brazilian DJ Vintage Culture had over 7.4 million Google News results. A debut album was expected when the study was compiled; it arrived as 'Promised Land' in June 2024 (DJ Mag, July 2024). Vintage Culture was in the top 10 of DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs in 2023 and 2024.

Instagram Stats
1. Marshmello - 29.9m Instagram followers
With just short of 30 million followers, Marshmello was the most-followed DJ on Instagram in the study.
2. Alok - 28.1m Instagram followers
The Brazilian DJ Alok was second, with 28.1 million followers, about 1.7 million behind Marshmello. Alok's most-played track on Spotify, 'Hear Me Now', had passed a billion plays by October 2026, and Alok placed No. 4 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs 2026.
3. Gianluca Vacchi - 22.7m Instagram followers
Gianluca Vacchi came to DJing from business. Vacchi is an Italian entrepreneur from the family behind the machinery maker IMA, and moved into music after a viral appearance in the video for 'Mi Gente' (agency biography). At the time of the study, Vacchi's most-played Spotify track, 'LOVE', had nearly 52 million plays.
TikTok Stats
1. Marshmello - 27.4m TikTok followers
Marshmello led TikTok as well as Instagram, with 27.4 million followers.
2. Gianluca Vacchi - 21.7m TikTok followers
Gianluca Vacchi was second, with 21.7 million followers, close to the Instagram figure.
3. Alok - 12.8m TikTok followers
Alok had almost 13 million TikTok followers, nearly double Alan Walker's 6.6 million in fourth place.
Methodology
A list of the most prominent DJs around the world was created from various articles including DJ Mag and Zillion FM. We then cut this list of over 200 DJs down to the 100 with the most Instagram followers.
We then looked at the following factors to work out which DJs are most influential:
- Spotify monthly listeners and top song plays were taken directly from Spotify. These numbers change constantly; the later figures quoted above come from kworb.net.
- The number of Google searches came from Google Keyword Planner: the total searches for each DJ around the world in 2022. Where a name needed more context to avoid unrelated searches, the word DJ or music was added to the search term.
- The number of Google News articles came from searching Google News with the same search terms.
- The total number of Instagram and TikTok followers was taken from each DJ's page.
- Finally, each DJ got a normalised score out of 10 for each factor, and the average of those scores gave the overall DJ score out of 10.
