Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

No professional review of the COLORband PiX-M ILS could be found, Guitar Center shows no owner reviews and Thomann does not list it, so there is no opinion to compile yet. What is known comes from Chauvet DJ: ten 6 W RGB LEDs, a 245° motorised tilt, individual LED control over up to 36 DMX channels, and ILS, RF remote and D-Fi options. Treat this page as a sourced spec sheet rather than a verdict, and buy it when it joins an ILS rig.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Chauvet DJ still lists the COLORband PiX-M ILS.

What it is

The COLORband PiX-M ILS is a motorised LED strip light from Chauvet DJ: ten 6 W tri-colour (RGB) LEDs on a 785 mm bar that tilts through 245° on built-in motors (Chauvet DJ product page). Chauvet DJ's page for it went up in March 2023. It runs as a sweeping effect, a pixel-mapping effect with each LED controlled on its own, a blinder or a wall-washer, and Chauvet DJ rates it at 7,441 lux at 2 m with a 15° beam and a 27° field.

Control is where it differs from a plain strip. It takes 5, 6, 8, 10, 17, 32 or 36 DMX channels over 3-pin and 5-pin XLR, and a built-in RF receiver works with Chauvet DJ's optional RFC and RFC-XL remotes. ILS means a GigBAR Move + ILS or an ILS Command controller runs it wirelessly without DMX, in the same way as the SlimPAR Q12BT ILS. A D-Fi USB transceiver, sold separately, adds wireless master/slave or DMX. Chauvet DJ publishes a ShowXpress profile and firmware for it.

It also strobes. The strobe lights guide sets out the UK Health and Safety Executive's recommended flash-rate limit for clubs and public performances, as the Epilepsy Society cites it.

It draws 86 W at 120 V, and its powerCON-compatible input and output power-link 12 units at 120 V or 20 at 230 V. It weighs 3.7 kg. The box holds the light, a power cord, a powerCON to bare-end cable in the EU, and a quick reference guide; its manual says to use a safety cable whenever it hangs overhead, and Chauvet DJ says it fits best in the optional CHS-60 VIP gear bag.
