Our take

Tony AllenWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

Nine of ten professional reviews recommend them, and Thomann owners largely agree: a lever on each earplug sets 7 to 25 dB of protection without taking it out, and music stays natural. Durability is the catch. 14 of 46 owners report magnets coming off or an earplug splitting, which Minuendo puts down to early batches and covers under warranty. Buy them for varied loud gigs; for one fixed level, plain musicians' earplugs cost less.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Minuendo now sells them as the Adjustable Earplugs, direct and through dealers such as Thomann.

What it is

The Lossless Earplugs are passive, reusable earplugs from Minuendo, an Oslo company founded in 2018 by a team from acoustics and hearing protection. Digital DJ Tips dates their launch to June 2021 (Minuendo product page). Each earplug holds a patented adjustable membrane and a lever: pushed forward, it closes the filter for up to 25 dB of reduction; pulled back, it opens to 7 dB, with any point in between. The levers aren't linked, so each ear is set on its own, and there are no electronics or batteries.

Minuendo certifies them to EN 352-2:2002 in the fully closed position, under the EU PPE Regulation 2016/425. The single number rating runs from 19 dB with one-flange tips to 24 dB with three-flange tips. The user guide says a three-flange silicone tip pressed well into the ear gives most people the tightest seal, while foam tips can be steadier and more comfortable over long periods, at the cost of slightly more bass. In the open position, Minuendo says, the safe exposure level rises from 85 dB to 92 dB over eight hours.

The box holds the two earplugs joined by a magnetic snap, a neck leash, a carry case, a cleaning brush and 11 sets of ear tips from 9 to 14 mm across in S, M and L. Silicone tips can be washed in warm water; foam tips can't and are replaced when worn. The earplugs shouldn't be soaked, and Minuendo expects them to last more than ten years unless damaged. Its FAQ says early batches failed more often than expected, mainly magnets coming off and, less often, earplugs splitting in two, and that both are covered by the three-year warranty.
