The Internet’s Opinion

From 4 professional reviews and 8 owner reviews: a fair amount of evidence.

Reviewers recommend it as a well-built, portable two-channel Serato controller with dedicated key controls and the inputs and outputs to work as a small mixer, and owners largely agree. The shared reservation is the short pitch faders; a couple of owners reported connection or crash problems with some computers at launch.

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

All four professional reviews recommend it as a well-built, portable Serato controller with dedicated key controls, and its phono/line inputs and XLR and booth outputs let it run as a small mixer. Owners agree, though a reviewer and an owner find the pitch faders short, and two owners reported computer connection problems at launch. Pioneer DJ has archived it, so it is now a used buy; otherwise choose a current Serato controller.

What it is

Status, October 2026: discontinued. Pioneer DJ still hosts its product page and downloads.

What it is

The DDJ-SR2 is a two-channel DJ controller for Serato DJ from Pioneer DJ, announced on 7 September 2017 and on sale that month (Pioneer DJ product page). It replaced the DDJ-SR, and Pioneer DJ says it is about 18 per cent lighter.

Plugged into a Mac or PC over USB-B, it unlocks Serato DJ Pro, and its two channels control four software decks. The box includes a voucher for Serato's Pitch 'n Time DJ Expansion Pack, which the dedicated Key Shift, Key Sync and Key Reset buttons control. Scratching with CDJs or turntables needs the Serato DVS Expansion Pack, sold separately. VirtualDJ publishes its own manual for the controller.

Each deck has a large jog wheel, eight multicoloured Performance Pads for Hot Cue, Roll, Slicer and Sampler, and a Needle Search strip. Two RCA inputs switch between phono and line, and with no computer attached the trims and channel faders still mix those sources. A dual level meter shows the master and channel levels.

Outputs are Master 1 on XLR, Master 2 on RCA, a 1/4" TRS booth output, and headphone jacks in 1/4" and 3.5 mm. The mic input is a 1/4" TS jack. The built-in sound card runs at 24-bit and 44.1 kHz, and the unit runs on USB bus power or the supplied 12 V AC adapter.

It measures 553 x 334.5 x 65.1 mm and weighs 3.7 kg. The box holds the AC adapter, a power cord, a USB cable, the quick start guide and the Serato expansion voucher.
