The Internet’s Opinion

From 7 professional reviews and 66 owner reviews: plenty of evidence.

Six of seven professional reviews recommend it as a comfortable, durable studio standard with clear sound at a fair price, and 66 owners read at Thomann and Guitar Center say the same; the fixed cable, a treble peak and the 250 ohm version's need for an amp are the recurring reservations.

What to know first

  • The cable is fixed and long; a damaged one means a repair, not a swap
  • Not neutral to every ear: bass-forward or a recessed midrange
  • A treble peak around 6 to 10 kHz that some find harsh or fatiguing
Show 3 more
  • The 250 ohm version is quiet from a laptop or phone without a headphone amp
  • Ear pads and headband pad wear with daily useReplaceable part
  • Bulky and not a travel headphone

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

Six of seven reviews recommend it, and 66 owners read at Thomann and Guitar Center repeat it: comfortable for hours, built to last with replaceable pads, and clear enough to be a studio standard for the price. The reservations repeat too: the cable is fixed, a treble peak tires some ears, and the 250 ohm version is quiet without an amp. Buy the 80 ohm for an interface or laptop, the 250 ohm for a headphone amp, the 32 ohm for phones.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Beyerdynamic still lists the DT 770 PRO in 32, 80 and 250 ohm versions, alongside the newer DT 770 PRO X.

What it is

The DT 770 PRO is a closed-back, over-ear studio headphone from Beyerdynamic, handcrafted in Germany and sold in three impedance versions on one product page: 32 ohms, which Beyerdynamic labels for mobile devices; 80 ohms, its universal studio pick; and 250 ohms, for professional devices (Beyerdynamic product page). What Hi-Fi? dates the DT 770 to 1985, five years after the DT 880, and Beyerdynamic has revised it since; the newer DT 770 PRO X, which MusicRadar says has eclipsed but not replaced it, sits beside it in the range.

All three versions share a dynamic driver, a 5 to 35,000 Hz response, 96 dB nominal sensitivity, velour ear pads and a spring steel headband (data sheet). They differ in cable and weight: the 32 ohm version has a 1.6 m straight cable and weighs 325 g, the 80 ohm a 3 m straight cable at 345 g, and the 250 ohm a 3 m coiled cable at 380 g. The cable is single-sided and fixed, and ends in a gold-plated 3.5 mm plug with a 6.35 mm adapter. Beyerdynamic quotes about 18 dBA of isolation from ambient noise for the 80 and 250 ohm versions and about 20 dBA for the 32 ohm.

The ear pads and headband pad are replaceable, and the data sheet lists velour, soft PVC and black velour pad sets as spare parts. The box holds the headphones, the adapter and a drawstring bag; Beyerdynamic sells the Hardcase PRO and DT Hardcase separately. Among the headphones with pages here, the Sennheiser HD 25 is the on-ear DJ standard; the DT 770 PRO is the over-ear studio one.
