The Internet’s Opinion

From 5 professional reviews and 9 owner reviews: a fair amount of evidence.

All five professional reviews recommend it as a mid-priced battle-style controller for Serato DJ Pro and rekordbox, for dedicated Stems buttons, Auto BPM Transition, a MAGVEL crossfader and pro outputs, and most of the nine owner reviews read are positive. The repeated reservations are no line or phono inputs for players, a plasticky build next to the DDJ-REV7, a high price and no hardware effects; two owners report unwanted noise during play.

Our take

Rory TassellWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

All five professional reviews recommend it, for dedicated Stems buttons, Auto BPM Transition, a MAGVEL crossfader and a layout modelled on DJM-S battle mixers, and six of the nine owner reviews read give it five stars. The reservations are no line or phono inputs for players, a plasticky build next to the REV7 and a high price. Buy it to step up from a REV1 on Serato; if you need inputs for turntables, reviewers point to the REV7.

What it is

Status, October 2026: current. Pioneer DJ still lists the DDJ-REV5.

What it is

The DDJ-REV5 is a two-channel scratch-style DJ controller from Pioneer DJ, the brand of AlphaTheta, announced on 7 August 2023 (Pioneer DJ product page). It sits between the DDJ-REV1 and the DDJ-REV7, with static jog wheels where the REV7 has motorised platters. Its layout follows a PLX turntable and DJM-S mixer setup: the long tempo sliders run sideways above each deck, and the eight Performance Pads per deck and the effect levers sit in the mixer section.

Each jog wheel has a display showing the playhead position and an adjustable Jog Feel, and the crossfader is a MAGVEL FADER with curve control. Dedicated Stems buttons mute, solo or separate vocals, melody, bass and drums in Serato DJ Pro, or vocal, drums and inst in rekordbox. It added two features new to Pioneer DJ: Auto BPM Transition, which moves the playing track's tempo to the other deck's over a chosen number of bars, and Piano Play, which lays the 16 pads out as a keyboard of pitched cue points.

It is not standalone. Plugged into a PC/Mac it runs Serato DJ Pro or rekordbox with no licence key or subscription, controls four decks, and comes with a voucher for Serato's Pitch 'n Time DJ expansion.

Outputs are a master on balanced XLR and on RCA, a balanced 1/4" TRS booth, and 1/4" and 3.5 mm headphone jacks. Inputs are two mics (one XLR/TRS combo) and an RCA AUX input for a line or phone source, with no line or phono channel inputs for players. Two USB-C ports take two computers for changeovers, and power comes from the supplied AC adapter. It measures 736 x 377.2 x 73.4 mm and weighs 6.2 kg. The box holds the adapter, power cord, one USB cable, paperwork and the Pitch 'n Time DJ voucher.
