Our take

Dex JonesWritten from the sources on this page, not from a loan unit.

All seven professional reviews recommend the XDJ-RX2 as the closest compact stand-in for a CDJ and DJM booth, citing its touch-screen search, DJM effects and club layout, and three of five Guitar Center owners say much the same. Four reviews note it has no rekordbox DVS support. Pioneer DJ has archived it and launched the XDJ-RX3 in November 2021: buy an RX2 used for home practice on club-style controls, or look at the RX3.

What it is

Status, October 2026: discontinued. Pioneer DJ marks its product page as archived and launched the XDJ-RX3 as its successor in November 2021.

What it is

The XDJ-RX2 is a two-deck, two-channel all-in-one DJ system from Pioneer DJ, announced in September 2017 as an upgrade of the XDJ-RX (Pioneer DJ product page). Pioneer DJ took its 7-inch touch screen, browse controls, Needle Search, Track Filter and QWERTY search from the CDJ-2000NXS2 player, and its Beat FX and Sound Color FX (Dub Echo, Sweep, Noise and Filter) from its DJM mixers. A limited white XDJ-RX2-W followed in October 2018.

It plays rekordbox-prepared tracks from two USB ports on top, or from a phone running rekordbox for iOS or Android, with no laptop. Through the USB-B port it plays a laptop's rekordbox library with Link Export, or controls rekordbox in Performance mode; rekordbox lists it as a Hardware Unlock device for ver. 7, so that mode needs no paid plan while it is connected. A master recorder saves a mix to USB.

Each deck has a jog wheel with a display section, eight multicoloured Performance Pads for Hot Cue, Beat Loop, Slip Loop and Beat Jump, and a tempo slider. Each mixer channel switches between its deck, a line input and a phono input, and there is an aux input and two XLR/TRS combo mic inputs with talkover. Outputs are Master 1 on XLR, Master 2 on RCA, booth on 1/4" TRS and two headphone jacks.

It measures 728.2 x 443.8 x 108.4 mm and weighs 9.1 kg. The box holds the unit, a power cord, a USB cable, the quick start guide and a rekordbox dj licence key card.
