The Do LaB stage at Coachella — one of the festival's longest-running independently curated spaces — was shut down on Friday night after a lighting fixture reportedly fell into the crowd during a surprise set by house producer John Summit. According to Mixmag, the stage was cordoned off and all subsequent sets, including a scheduled appearance by Andy C, were cancelled.
The Do LaB has operated at Coachella since 2004, running its own production independently from the festival's main stages. The structure features elaborate overhead lighting rigs, LED installations, and moving fixtures suspended above the crowd.
Eyewitness Accounts Paint a Chaotic Scene
Multiple attendees took to Reddit and social media in the hours following the incident, describing a scene where equipment struck at least one person during Summit's performance.
"I was there, one of the speakers fell on someone during his set. She was badly injured I think"
Another attendee claimed the response was slow:
"Hit a couple people. Stayed on the ground for the rest of John's set, no one came to assist. Wild"
Others who were closer to the impact described the immediate aftermath:
"There was definitely some blood, but she was awake and a group of people were able to carry her out"

No Official Response Yet
Neither Goldenvoice, Coachella's promoter, nor Do LaB had issued a public statement at the time of reporting. The specific cause of the equipment failure — whether related to rigging, weather, or a mechanical fault — remains unclear. Strong winds were also reported at the festival site that evening, though no direct link to the incident has been confirmed.
Festival production standards typically require overhead fixtures to meet strict load ratings and carry redundant safety systems — multiple attachment points, secondary cables, and pre-event structural inspections. The decision to close the entire stage rather than resume operations suggests concerns may have extended beyond a single fixture.
The closure affects any artists booked for the Do LaB during Coachella's second weekend, disrupting travel plans, production coordination, and promotional commitments built around now-cancelled time slots.
