Elektron Acquired by Bonnier Capital in Ownership Shift
Swedish instrument manufacturer Elektron has been acquired by Bonnier Capital, ending the company's run as an independent manufacturer. The Stockholm-based firm, which has built a dedicated following for its Digitakt, Analog Rytm, and Octatrack product lines, is now under the control of the Swedish investment group.
Elektron has maintained independence since its founding in 1998, building a reputation for grooveboxes and synthesizers that combine hands-on sequencing with sampling capabilities. The company's products have become studio fixtures for producers and live performers who value its workflow approach to pattern-based composition.
The Bonnier Connection
Bonnier Capital operates as the venture investment arm of the Bonnier Group, a Swedish media conglomerate with holdings spanning publishing, broadcasting, and entertainment. The acquisition represents Bonnier's entry into music hardware manufacturing, though the financial terms remain undisclosed according to CDM Create Digital Music.
The deal follows a period of consolidation in the music technology sector. Native Instruments merged with iZotope and Plugin Alliance in 2021, while Roland acquired Boss parent company ATV Corporation's remaining shares in 2014. Elektron's acquisition continues this pattern of independent manufacturers finding corporate backing or integration.
Product Line Continuity
Elektron's current lineup includes the Digitakt II sampler, Analog Rytm MKII drum machine, and Octatrack MKII performance sampler. The company ships products worldwide from its Gothenburg manufacturing facility, which employs approximately 100 staff members according to previous company statements.
Neither Elektron nor Bonnier Capital has issued statements regarding operational changes, staffing, or product development roadmaps following the acquisition. The companies have not announced whether Elektron will maintain its current management structure or integrate further into Bonnier's corporate framework.
What This Means for DJs
Elektron's hardware sits at the intersection of DJ performance tools and studio production gear. The Octatrack functions as both a live sampler and DJ mixer replacement in experimental sets, while the Digitakt serves as a standalone drum machine for producers building tracks between gigs. Ownership changes typically precede shifts in product strategy, warranty support structures, and customer service operations.
Current Elektron owners should monitor official channels for announcements regarding firmware updates, repair services, and product warranties under the new ownership. The company's 3-year warranty policy and Overbridge software integration with DAWs represent key differentiators that users will want to see maintained through the transition.
