While they have recently become a strong household name throughout the DJ world due to their incredible DJ controllers and CDJ multi-media devices, Pioneer DJ has had quite a reputation, both in creating and manufacturing different electronic devices over its 80 years as a company.

Founded by Nozomu Matsumoto in the late 1930s, Pioneer originally started as little more than an electronic repair shop. At that time, the shop focused primarily on radios as well as speaker systems.

Today, Pioneer has grown to become a worldwide electronics company, with products sold all around the globe.

A Japanese company based out of Tokyo, Pioneer is one of the few companies to have managed to take their business out onto the world’s stage.

As a result, people are just as likely to recognize Pioneer and its high-quality products, whether they’re directly from Tokyo itself or are currently living in the U.S. or the UK.

While Pioneer was once solely involved in the repair business, over time they have steadily branched off into marketing and manufacturing their products.

First transitioning from creating cable tv, Pioneer has since moved on to CDs, then to car stereos, to DVD systems.

The History Of Pioneer DJ

Considered by many to be one of the foremost digital entertainment companies in the world, Pioneer DJ has understandably fostered a strong and loyal fan base. This is hardly by accident.

While it is easy enough to rattle off the different products the Pioneer DJ brand has created and manufactured over the years, this is only one reason for its success.

What’s more, it is easily the least impressive aspect of it. One thing that needs to be considered is that, though it may seem simple today, at the time, Pioneer very much lived to their company’s name.

Leading the charge into the digital entertainment space despite there being very little developed at that time, Pioneer was instrumental in helping to usher in Japan’s tech-heavy reality. In 1962, Pioneer introduced the first fully functional stereo system.

Similarly, in 1975, Pioneer first introduced the world’s first compact car stereo system. This continued as a through-line for the company, always opting to innovate and lead the industry into the uncharted future as opposed to treading ground.

One of their biggest moves was in 2015 when they sold their DJ equipment business to KRK. This tremendous sale resulted in a separate company, Pioneer DJ.

While technically an entirely different company from the primarily established Pioneer, Pioneer DJ has greatly worked to influence the public’s perception surrounding the Pioneer name, creating innovative and well-made DJ equipment.

And, while this has certainly resulted in Pioneer getting their fair share of confused customers asking about mixers and other DJ equipment, with both separate entities putting out amazing products, the Pioneer name has only become even more synonymous with premier quality.

Pioneer vs. Pioneer DJ

While Pioneer has always been involved in the electronic scene, over the years they began to increasingly focus on various DJ-based equipment.

This all came to a head when, in 2015, they sold their DJ equipment business to the KRK company.

This resulted in an entirely separate company being founded known as Pioneer DJ.

It is largely because of this similar-sounding company, that has continued to produce premier controllers and other DJ equipment, that there is as much confusion surrounding Pioneer as a whole.

Put simply, whereas Pioneer DJ is only allowed to produce DJ-based tools and equipment, the preeminent and original Pioneer, while not able to produce any items specifically dealing with DJ tools, can and does still make many other types of electronics.

The Types Of DJ Speaker Systems By Pioneer

It may be because of this mix-up in perception that Pioneer DJ has made tremendous strides into the various studio monitor speakers as well as powered PA systems.

Below is a list of some of the different monitor speakers that Pioneer has made, as well as why many consider them to be some of the best speaker systems available to date.

Studio Monitor Speakers

Their most impressive of the two, Pioneer DJ has excelled in creating the studio monitor speakers. For many new buyers and starting DJs, Pioneer’s studio monitors will likely be the first type of item they are ever exposed to by the company.

As such, they have worked to make them some of the greatest speaker options on the market.

Despite the plethora of different and competing options available in the studio monitor space, Pioneer’s speakers have continually ranked as some of the highest, being well regarded by everyone that listens to them.

The RM Line

The RM line of monitors comes with a built-in HD coaxial driver and varied between a 5-inch up to an 8-inch woofer, offering a range of different sound and power volumes.

They are universally loved by everyone that uses them and are the perfect solution for professionals due to them offering both a high SPL as well as a near-complete neutral sound across mid, low, and high-end frequencies.

The Bulit Line

The Bulit line of speakers is made up of two different speakers, the Bulit 5 and the Bulit 6. Both speakers come as either having a 5-inch or 6-inch woofer respectively.

Outside of this, both speakers offer high-fidelity sound while also resulting in impressive audio feedback.

This is particularly well appreciated by DJs and music producers alike, due to the amount of time spent practicing different beats and mixes as well as creating or producing a new track.

One thing to note about the Bulit 5 and Bulit 6 respectively is that they are available in various models and sizes based on what you are looking for.

Overall, it is not hyperbole to say that they offer some of the most impressive levels of sound accuracy among the many many different studio monitor speakers currently on the market.

The S-DJ Line

The S-DJ line of speakers has a small variety of different available speakers to choose from based on their respective sizes.

Sold separately, the SD-J speakers are specifically meant and designed to offer DJs the most amount of flexibility possible while also giving them as much neutral sound as possible.

The speakers all come with a built-in EQ feature that allows DJs the ability to tweak and fine-tune different tracks based on what they need at any given time.

The DM Line

The DM line of studio monitor speakers can easily be argued as some of their best speakers available. This is for a variety of reasons, however, the biggest is due to their available sizes in addition to their offered versatile sound.

Whereas many of the other speakers on this list required a fair amount of space to justify their purchase, the same isn’t the case for the DM line, as they have some speakers small enough to sit comfortably on your desktop while others large enough to potentially be used as small floor monitors at certain venues.

The DM speakers are known for providing incredibly high sound quality, both commercially in most buyers’ homes, as well as professionally with the various DJ home studios.

Powered PA Speaker Systems

XPRS Line

In addition to their impressive lineup of different premier studio monitors, Pioneer DJ has also been highly regarded for their different, yet equally superb, PA speaker systems.

These PA speakers generally range between 10 inches and 15 inches and are fairly portable due to their more compact and easily moveable size.

Where you will find that many other PA speakers can be a bit difficult to put together, Pioneer DJ has gone out of its way to make the process as simple and as straightforward as possible, both to install and put together, as well as to simply plug in and play.

Pioneer’s powered PA speakers are very energy efficient, making them environmentally friendly despite their impressive volume range. And, while this is generally impossible for most PA systems, simply due to their size and power output requiring massive amounts of energy.

For the Pioneer Powered PA speakers, this is less of an issue due to their use of Pioneer’s Pro Audio sound technology as well as their Powersoft amps.

Both of these features are helping the speakers to reach far distances with as little energy pull as possible.

In addition, another feature worth noting is that these PA speakers have a full range of natural sounds to listen to.

What’s more, the speakers are initially housed in a professionally-made cabinet and sold as entirely individual components.

Knowing Where To Start

Deciding on what speakers to get can certainly be a challenge unto itself. With so many options out there, it’s not difficult to imagine even the more professional music producers and DJs getting overwhelmed at what is and isn’t worth their time.

However, while finding an ideal set of speakers may normally be a challenge, it doesn’t always have to be.

Getting a Pioneer DJ set of DJ speakers comes with several in-built guarantees.

Not only are you getting a set of speakers that offer tremendous value for the money spent, but you’ll have a plethora of different sizes and line options to choose from, all of which are exceptional in their sound quality and precision.

If you aren’t sure where to start, be sure to check out different speaker reviews to see what we thought of many of these current options.

That way you can find the speaker that is just right for you.

Getting A Set Of Pioneer DJ Speakers – What You Can Expect

No matter the company type or what they offer, branding will always be the most important facet, of which a business will either see monumental success or abysmal failure. The issue is that most people consider branding to be just a company’s logo or product name.

And, while these factors are included in a company’s brand, they are, interestingly enough, only a very small part of what makes a brand what it is.

How do you feel about the company’s product or services?

Do they have a reputation for having good customer service?

What is the general perception of their leadership?

These are all factors that play a much bigger role in a company’s brand compared to how the logo looks or what type of font is used to spell out the name.

Why is this important to Pioneer DJ? One reason and that’s that, while this sentiment about the logo vs. the brand can be argued against by the likes of Apple or Pepsi, the fact of the matter is that Pioneer does not have a fancy logo or nifty spelling for their name.

If you were to look at their marketing display, you’d potentially argue that it was a bit amateurish, especially when compared to some of the more well-regarded brands of our time.

And that’s the point. Pioneer has been around for nearly a century and has become synonymous with high-quality, easily accessible electronics of all types, their name holding more weight now, thanks to the Pioneer DJ and the additional notoriety that’s come with them.

So, how did Pioneer manage to become such an incredible force throughout the electronic world despite seeming, for all intents and purposes, pretty lame?

Simply put, they built up a reputation as being a top-tier brand.

This was done by putting out high-end products, setting up service centers for repairs, and having a strong online presence.

Below, we’ll go over each of these aspects and how they came to the result of Pioneer being a truly spectacular company.

High-Quality Products

We’ve gone over this in much detail here already but it is worth mentioning again. As great as the preceding aspects are, without a good product, people aren’t going to come back. It doesn’t matter how nice your server is if the restaurant has terrible food.

Conversely, you may be able to overlook relatively bad service if the food is good enough.

Pioneer excels because not only is their product good, but they have considerable support and quality service to assist if ever there is a problem.

Service Centres

Sprawled all over the globe in major cities in most countries, you’re likely going to find an authorized service provider that you can go to. There, the professionals are trained to handle any issues you may have with your device.

This can range from simple questions to maintenance advice, to outright repair options.

This is not only a convenient option for most people (making it preferable) but it also offers a friendly face that you can interact with rather than a voice at a call center or an automated computer service.

Online Presence

In addition to their physical in-person options, Pioneer also comes with several online options, all of which work to make your experience with them that much easier and more enjoyable.

My Pioneer DJ Account

Pioneer DJ has created a way for consumers to register themselves and their products online. My Pioneer DJ Account ensures that they have access to the latest software updates, maintenance information, and product recalls.

Online updates, in particular, are a great option, both for the company itself as well as the buyer.

By having access to the most recent software update as soon as it is available, buyers will be able to handle any potential issue quickly and easily.

Online Manuals

Just as the software updates are easy ways for buyers to have access to important information, the same is true for Pioneer DJ’s online manual.

By having access to your Pioneer device’s manual at any and all times, you can easily find the solution to most minor problems that may arise.

Forums

Finally, Pioneer DJ has an online forum community where members are exposed to different products and news as they are coming out.

It may not be for everyone, however, if you are interested in being part of a community, the forums may certainly be worth checking out.

Pioneer DJ Speaker Guide: Summary

There’s a reason why Pioneer DJ has been leading the charge in the electronics field for over 80 years. That’s because they have married together innovation with incredible products and even better customer service.

Simply put, more so than almost any other company out there, you know what you’re getting when you buy from Pioneer.
