Air purification inside a set of headphones
In an unusual move, Dyson has entered the audio headphone market by releasing a new design of air-purifying Bluetooth headphones called Zone.
To be brutally honest, here at DJ Tech Reviews we weren’t entirely sure what to think at first. In fact, Mad Max initially sprang to mind on hearing this tech news.
The dystopian but modern-looking design incorporates a steel visor that runs from ear to ear and actually filters out the air the user breaths. This then delivers purified air to the wearer’s nose and mouth.
But unlike a mask though, it doesn’t make contact with the face. It neatly sits in front of the mouth and nose and filters the air as it passes by. Clever stuff.
I bet you are also wondering if these will protect us against factors such as COVID 19? Well, it does in fact! The user can add an optional FFP2 filter for further protection against COVID-19.
The visor is also removable if you only want to use them as headphones. The headphones and visor combo also feature noise-canceling, so not only can you block pollution and virus particles, but you can also block out sound, leaving you to listen to music in absolute peace.
Now we like the sound of that on our daily city commutes! No pun intended. Of course!
The Zone also smartly detects how fast the user is moving and then automatically adjusts the airflow to compensate.
The headphones can be charged over a standard USB-C and the battery life is 4.5 hours at the lowest purity-filter setting, 90minutes if you are maxing out the filter.
And of course, it has an app. The app tells you when it’s time to replace the filters and which Dyson says should be around a year in a European city.
It’s typical of Dyson to produce such a next-level pair of headphones and we look forward to giving them a test run as soon as possible!
As yet, there’s no price released for the Zones but they’re expected to cost between £500 and £1,000.
